In this case, the US warns that some foreign state actors can using generative AI to generate real voice, video likeliness manipulate the populace.

We are talking about taking over the identity of the world’s most powerful leaders. And the bad actors are aiming to hoodwink and manipulate a broad spectrum of the country’s population. Population scale fake identity attack.

If such a scale attack is possible, how difficult will it be to manipulate individuals , with identities of other individuals? Trivial, especially if they have data available through previously placed bugs. Then with ample compute power, you can hoist the fraud avatar and fake the voice.

Now, with sufficient data, one can create voice and even video likeliness of your father or your colleague. The AI bot might call you, talk like they usually talk, gesture like they usually gesture, and manipulate you to transferring money, or even perilously secrets.

Now come to CAPTCHA.

The humble captcha serves a hallowed purpose. It is the

‘Completely Automated Public Turning Test to tell Computers and Humans Apart’.

So, in the CAPTCHA process, you have to prove to the computer that you are a human.

It is not done on a Public basis (to a web entity as in the case of CAPTCHA) but on a Private basis (1:1 or small group settings). It is like a digital certificate, but with proof of life and identity.

Your communication tool provider (it could be the carrier or the phone device vendor or an independent software developer) can provide the CAPPLI service with an underlying ID & Life verification layer for your communication.

Phones will have biometric, but there will be other ways to bye-pass the biometric. Then the actor can use the phone to stage the hijacked ID.

Such is the state of the world.

So, to computers humans need to prove that they are humans. To humans, they need to prove they are not computers.

As a species, such repeated existential proof will give us a permanent identity crisis, while the Artificial Intelligence computer will be laughing its bits out, secure of its identity that it is not human. May be that is why these Neanderthals gave up.
